Design Works is hiring a Human Resources & Accounting Assistant to help keep our team supported and our day to day operations running smoothly.
We are an established landscape architecture & construction firm in Hudson, NH with a team of around 30 employees. We run a calm, organized operation and are looking for someone who can step in, take ownership of daily responsibilities, and help keep things on track.
This is a support focused role working closely with ownership and our accounting manager. You will help manage the people side of the business, including leading quarterly reviews, giving clear and direct feedback, and holding employees accountable in a fair and consistent way. You will not be expected to build systems from scratch, but to help manage and improve what is already in place.
This role requires someone who is confident, level headed, and comfortable working in a blue collar environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Human Resources & Team Support
- Own and manage the hiring pipeline including job postings, candidate screening, and interview coordination
- Lead onboarding process including documentation, orientation, and system setup
- Maintain accurate and up to date employee records
- Track employee performance and lead the quarterly review process
- Manage and approve PTO requests
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee questions and day to day support
- Assist managers in resolving employee concerns and maintaining team consistency
- Support a positive company culture and clear communication between field and management
- Manage H2B program tracking and required documentation
- Maintain compliance records including I-9s, W-4s, and certifications
- Support workers compensation processes and reporting
- Ensure compliance with labor laws and internal company policies
Accounting Support
- Assist with payroll including time tracking, verification, and submission
- Support billing and invoicing to ensure accuracy and timeliness
- Track incoming payments and assist with accounts receivable follow up
- Monitor and categorize credit card transactions and receipts
- Maintain organized and accurate financial records
Qualifications
- Experience in human resources required
- Accounting or bookkeeping experience preferred
- Strong organizational skills
- Comfortable working in a blue collar environment
- Strong communication and problem solving skills
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Reliable commute to Hudson, NH
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Bilingual is a plus
