Overview
The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all safety programs across the company’s concrete pipe, precast, and ready-mix operations. This includes maintaining compliance with OSHA, & DOT, while fostering a strong culture of safety throughout all levels of the organization. The role oversees plant safety, fleet safety, environmental compliance, and employee training across all four plants and a 25-vehicle delivery fleet.
Key Responsibilities
1. Safety Program Leadership
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and training programs tailored to manufacturing and fleet operations.
- Conduct routine safety audits and inspections of all plant sites, equipment, and fleet operations.
- Lead root-cause analyses for incidents, near misses, and workers’ compensation claims; ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Coordinate Safety Committee meetings and promote employee involvement in safety initiatives.
2. Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910, 1926, and 1904, DOT/FMCSA, EPA, and state/local environmental and workplace safety regulations.
- Maintain records for safety training, incident reporting, and fleet compliance (driver qualification files, vehicle maintenance logs, etc.).
- Serve as the company liaison with regulatory agencies and insurance representatives during audits or investigations.
3. Fleet & Driver Safety
- Oversee all DOT and FMCSA requirements for the company’s 25-vehicle ready-mix and delivery fleet, including driver qualification files, drug/alcohol testing, and hours-of-service monitoring.
- Implement defensive driving and load securement training programs.
- Ensure vehicle inspection, maintenance, and repair programs are properly documented and compliant.
4. Plant & Field Operations
- Oversee safety for precast and concrete pipe manufacturing plants, ensuring proper machine guarding, lockout/tagout, confined space, crane and forklift operation, and PPE standards.
- Develop job hazard analyses (JHAs) for all key production and delivery processes.
- Ensure contractors and vendors adhere to company safety standards while on site.
5. Training & Culture Development
- Develop and lead onboarding safety orientation for all new hires.
- Conduct recurring safety meetings, toolbox talks, and annual refresher training.
- Promote a proactive safety culture emphasizing accountability, awareness, and employee engagement.
- Serve as the internal resource for safety education, leadership coaching, and continuous improvement initiatives.
6. Risk Management
- Collaborate with HR and Controller to manage workers’ compensation claims and coordinate modified duty programs.
- Analyze incident data and trends to develop targeted safety improvements.
- Assist in emergency response planning and disaster recovery readiness for all sites.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 7–10 years of progressive safety leadership experience in manufacturing, construction, or concrete production (precast, pipe, or ready-mix preferred).
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and environmental compliance standards.
- Experience with multi-site operations and fleet management.
- Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to influence a diverse workforce.
- Professional certification preferred (OSHA 501/503).
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to travel between plant sites (approx. 20% travel).
- Must be able to work in both office and field environments, including exposure to heat, noise, dust, and heavy equipment areas.
- Must wear required PPE at all times in designated areas.

- Reduction in recordable incidents, vehicle accidents, and lost-time injuries.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
