Design and Build is a construction plumbing company that works all around the Richmond area and occasionally travels to other places such as Charlottesville, Norfolk, Williamsburg, etc.

Expectations

We are looking for people who are willing to work hard, show up on time, and be ready to learn.

Our typical workday starts around 7:00 A.M., so being dependable and on time is important. As long as you come to work ready to work hard, keep a good attitude, and make an effort to learn, we would be happy to have you join the team.

The Team

Our team is currently made up of around 30–35 members, ranging in age from 18 to 65, and with all levels of experience — from brand new workers just entering the trade to seasoned Master Plumbers. We also have employees who speak English, Spanish, and both English and Spanish, which helps create a more comfortable work environment and reduces language barriers on the job.

Most of the work we take on consists of mid-sized jobs that can last anywhere from a single day to around six months, though some projects may run longer. Because of that, you usually won’t be stuck on the same job for too long. Instead, you’ll have the opportunity to work on a variety of different projects, gain experience in many areas of the trade, and continue building new skills.

Although we may not be the biggest company around, we take pride in being one of the best. While some companies hire just anyone or cut corners on tools and materials to keep costs down, we do the opposite. A Family Company

The owner of Design and Build Plumbing and DAB Plumbing Service, Damian Thayer Sr., has been in the plumbing industry since he was 22 years old and is now 48. He founded Design and Build Plumbing in 2009 at the age of 32. In 2012, he also started DAB Plumbing Service so that his wife, Josi Thayer, would not have to go back to working for someone else after their two sons were grown.

Today, the business remains deeply rooted in family. Damian Sr.’s oldest son, Damian Jr., works for DAB Plumbing Service as a Technician. His youngest son, Dalton Thayer, works for Design and Build as both an Apprentice Plumber and an In-House Engineer. Damian Sr.’s mother, Charmaine, also plays an important role in both companies as the Office Manager. Dalton's Girlfriend works as DAB's Service Coordinator.

Many of Damian Sr.’s employees knew him long before Design and Build was ever created, and they chose to join him because they believed in his character, his work ethic, and his vision for building a company worth working for.

A fun fact: Damian Jr. and Dalton Thayer’s childhood wrestling coach, Matt, is also part of the Design and Build team and now works as an Estimator. It’s just one more reason why we truly are a family business.
