Job Summary:
Desert Services International is seeking an experienced, safety-focused Directional Drill Operator to join our growing team. This role is responsible for operating directional drilling equipment and supporting underground utility and fiber installation projects while ensuring accuracy, safety compliance, and quality workmanship.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in construction environments, a strong understanding of underground utility installation, and the ability to work efficiently in fast-paced field operations. Key Responsibilities:
- Operate horizontal directional drilling equipment for underground utility installations
- Work closely with supervisors and locators to confirm bore paths and project requirements
- Safely operate mini-excavators and other construction equipment as needed
- Perform utility locating and potholing to identify existing underground utilities
- Maintain proper clearances from utilities, roadways, sidewalks, and surrounding infrastructure
- Transport, handle, and install conduit and fiber materials properly
- Install fiber cables, pedestals, and vaults according to project specifications
- Read and interpret blueprints, maps, and project plans
- Follow OSHA safety regulations and company safety standards at all times
- Maintain communication with supervisors and team members throughout the workday
- Assist with additional duties as assigned to support project completion
Qualifications:
- Previous experience operating directional drilling equipment required
- Knowledge of underground utility construction and fiber installation preferred
- Ability to read construction plans and utility maps
- Strong commitment to workplace safety
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Must be dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work as part of a team
- Valid driver’s license required (CDL required)
