Duties
- Assist with patient intake by collecting medical histories, verifying insurance information, and updating electronic health record (EHR) systems accurately.
- Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration to provide essential data for diagnosis and treatment.
- Prepare patients for examinations or procedures, ensuring comfort and understanding of the process.
- Support clinical procedures including medication administration, X-ray imaging, and basic life support (BLS) techniques under supervision.
- Manage medical documentation with precision, including ICD coding for diagnoses and procedures to ensure accurate billing and recordkeeping.
- Coordinate with hospital teams for inpatient care or Level I/II trauma center protocols when necessary, including PICU or OR experience.
- Provide exceptional patient service by answering questions, scheduling follow-ups, and ensuring a welcoming environment in outpatient or clinic settings.
- Support emergency medicine efforts in urgent care or emergency departments by assisting with triage, vital sign monitoring, and basic first aid.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Medical Assistant in diverse healthcare environments such as hospital medicine, outpatient clinics, or specialty practices like dermatology or internal medicine.
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology to assist effectively during examinations and procedures.
- Familiarity with EHR systems for documentation and appointment scheduling.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required; additional certifications like ICD coding or medication administration are preferred.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology relevant to inpatient care, emergency medicine, geriatrics, medical-surgical units, PICU, OR procedures, and Level I/II trauma centers.
- Ability to perform clinical tasks such as intake assessments, vital signs collection, X-ray assistance, and medication administration confidently.
- Excellent patient service skills with a compassionate approach to diverse populations including geriatrics and pediatric patients.
