The Director of Commercial Loan Portfolio Management is responsible for overseeing a team of portfolio managers in managing the day-to-day activities of the Commercial Real Estate loan portfolio, specifically loans exceeding $1,000,000. The Director leads and develops a team to ensure that all portfolio management functions are executed effectively as well as drives results, resolves day-to-day operational challenges, makes key decisions, and develops strategies to enhance team performance and portfolio health. The Director ensures the portfolio is monitored for credit risk, covenant compliance, and operational efficiency, while fostering strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.

What you will do here:

Team Leadership & Development: Lead and develop the Portfolio Management team. Responsible for talent management including hiring, training, and mentoring team members. Oversee the team’s efforts in ensuring compliance with loan covenants, regular reporting requirements, and annual credit reviews. Encourage continuous improvement and drive performance standards within the team. Ensure the team effectively mitigates risk across the portfolio.

Portfolio Management: Oversee and ensure that the team actively manages a large, diverse loan portfolio of Commercial Real Estate loans including annual reviews, monitoring maturities, managing delinquencies, and developing loss mitigation strategies as needed. Monitor credit risk across the portfolio and identify opportunities to enhance business relationships. Make critical decisions related to portfolio management, including loan structuring, risk mitigation, and portfolio strategy. Monitor the portfolio’s performance, set goals, and drive results through continuous improvements in processes and risk management.

Problem Resolution: Act as the key decision-maker in resolving day-to-day issues that arise in portfolio management. Provide guidance to the team on complex problems related to covenant compliance, loan grading, and risk management. Establish protocols for tracking documentation exceptions, past due reports, field exams, borrowing base reports, and covenant exceptions.

Underwriting & Credit Analysis: Ensure the team conducts thorough credit analysis and underwriting for existing and prospective member relationships. This includes evaluating borrower/guarantor repayment capacity, structuring loan recommendations, and submitting credit packages for credit committee approval.

Customer Service & Relationship Management: Provide recurring customer service to existing members. Lead joint sales calls with loan officers and ensure direct and effective communication with clients to address concerns and identify opportunities for business growth.

Reporting & Communication: Ensure timely reporting to senior leadership on portfolio health, credit risk, and compliance metrics. Communicate effectively with stakeholders both internally and externally to foster a cohesive working relationship.

What you will need:

Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

8 years of Credit/Portfolio Management and Administration experience required

8 years of experience in Commercial Loan Underwriting, both Commercial Real Estate and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) loans required

5 years of leadership experience required

Strong leadership skills including experience in managing, training, and developing a team.

Experience with regulatory compliance and portfolio monitoring, including covenant compliance and loan performance tracking.

Strong knowledge of commercial real estate loan structures, underwriting, and credit risk management.

Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.

Strong negotiation skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills; capable of managing relationships with both clients and internal stakeholders.

Abrigo (Sageworks) Loan Origination System experience.
