JOB TITLE: Director of Education
REPORTS TO: DAC Board President
SCHEDULE: Part-Time
Seasonal (August – May)
Average Hours Approximately 5-8/week, with additional hours during program start-up and season wrap-up, as needed.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES (SUMMARY)
Responsible for supporting youth arts education programs, coordinating lectures and adult education logistics, managing volunteers and instructors, conducting school/parent outreach, ensuring student safety during MSAP sessions, and completing grant-driven reporting. This role oversees program operations and communication while collaborating with the Education Chairperson and office administration.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Middle School Art Program (MSAP) & High School Art Program (HSAP)
- Coordinate awareness and enrollment outreach with schools and parents using approved communication channels.
- Includes securing permission to post classes on the parent-school platform PeachJar.
- Distribute program information during school lunch periods and Parent-Teacher Conferences.
- Confirm class topics and instructor assignments from an existing list of approved teachers.
- Recruit and assign classroom support assistants from DAC membership volunteers.
- Maintain operational readiness for classes by:
- Registering students at arrival.
- Confirming classroom set-up and teacher preparedness before start time.
- Purchase snacks for MSAP students.
- Unlocking/locking restrooms and facilities.
- Maintaining student visibility and preventing unsupervised wandering.
- Monitoring student pick-up until final student is released (no later than 12:30 PM).
- Maintain classroom supply readiness:
- Collect teacher/volunteer supply needs
- Communicate needs to the DAC office (office handles sourcing and purchasing).
- Write grants and prepare end-of-term grant reports documenting accounting of funds spent and program outcomes.
- Serve as the main contact for instructors and classroom volunteers regarding MSAP/HSAP operational questions.
Lecture Series (October – April)
- Manage scheduling logistics using pre-provided speaker and videographer lists.
- Confirm availability, coordinate dates, and maintain monthly calendar October – April.
- Process speaker and videographer contracts and confirmations.
- Coordinate room and technical set-up needs through program volunteers and custodian communication.
- Secure video deliverables for release on DAC website or approved external platforms
Adult Workshops & Classes (October – May)
- Work closely with the Education Chairperson and office team to:
- Monitor attendance and enrollment needs.
- Support promotion of classes needing increased participation.
- Assist in volunteer coordination for classroom and workshop support.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Required
- Understanding of education or youth program operations.
- Awareness of student safety expectations in programs serving minors.
- Strong written communication, including preparing structured reports.
- Effective coordination across stakeholders (schools, parents, instructors, volunteers, custodian, office staff, and board).
- Organized scheduling and calendar management.
- Must be present on-site for MSAP sessions from 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM (Saturdays).
- Able to work remotely for all non-MSAP duties.
- Comfortable communicating with educators and adult learners, emphasizing skill-based learning over childcare.
Preferred
- Retired educator or arts education background
- Bilingual in English Spanish
- Familiarity with communicating with school administrators and parents
- Basic exposure to or willingness to learn grant application writing and grant reporting (with support).
