The Youth Services department at Des Plaines Public Library is looking for a creative and organized individual to join us as a part-time Library Assistant. This position will work at a busy public desk, plan and perform engaging library programming for kids of all ages, and bring their unique skill set to our amazing team of enthusiastic library staff.
Des Plaines Public Library is a five-star library serving a diverse, active, and growing community. We are seeking someone with experience working with children of all ages, knowledge of current children’s literature and trends, a friendly and generous approach to customer service, strong communication skills, and a desire to use their enthusiasm and imagination to bring something special to the team. Speaking Polish, Russian, Ukranian, or Spanish is a plus.
Minimum qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. One year of experience working with children. Library experience working with children preferred.
3. Available to work evenings and weekends.

Hours
This is a part-time, non-exempt, 20-hour position.
Monday 1-9pm*, Thursday 9am-2pm, Friday 9am-5pm
Sunday 1-5pm, as part of a 4-week rotation
*When working Sunday, the following Monday will be a 5-9pm shift.
Salary
$19.00 per hour. This position includes vacation time and IMRF.
