JOB IDENTIFICATION
Job Title: Swim School Instructor – Chippewa Pool, Arndt Park
Grade: II
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Department: Recreation
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Aquatic Manger, Aquatic Supervisor, Swim School Coordinator
BASIC FUNCTION
Through a positive approach, Swim School Instructors will lead classes and teach students swimming skills and water safety.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Teach with creativity, patience and positivity.
- Be open to teaching students of different ages, backgrounds and skill levels.
- Comfortable being in water and teaching by example with demonstrations.
- Plan and implement daily courses based on your student’s level.
- Responsible for safety of participants.
- Complete all necessary paperwork including daily lessons plans and swimmer report cards.
- Demonstrate and promote positive guest relations and exceptional customer service.
- Work as a team with the entire staff including instructors, lifeguards and managers.
- Develop positive parent and child relations.
- Attend instructor in-service trainings as necessary.
- Maintain a consistent schedule with minimal interruptions, regular attendance and punctuality.
OTHER DUTIES
- Respond calmly in emergency situations and assist as needed.
- Adhere to Park District safety standards and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Some High School education. Basic knowledge of swim strokes and techniques.
Experience: 15 years of age or older.
Exceptional customer service attitude.
Previous experience with teaching or watching children
Certifications: First Aid/CPR certification preferred but not required.
