Job Summary: The Medical Assistant is responsible for all day-to-day back-office clinical operations and provides direct support to the provider. Duties include rooming patients, scribing, assisting with and performing procedures and injections, and preparing, assisting with, and cleaning up after dermatologic procedures such as shave and punch biopsies, electrodesiccation and curettage, and excisions.
The Medical Assistant is expected to follow both sterile and non-sterile techniques, perform sterile wraps, and properly care for and handle medical instruments. The role requires consistent demonstration of sensitivity to patients’ needs, comfort, and confidentiality. A professional appearance and demeanor must be maintained at all times.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to learn, understand, and retain knowledge of dermatologic conditions, medications, procedures, and treatments
- Proficiency with computers and electronic medical record system
- Strong telephone skills, including telephone triage, pathology result callbacks, calling in prescriptions, and managing medication prior authorizations
- Ability to maintain a full-time work schedule with reliable attendance and punctuality
- Flexibility to work overtime as needed
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Deliver an excellent patient experience through exemplary patient focus and customer service
- Assist the physician during in-office examinations
- Assist the physician with minor surgical procedures using aseptic technique, including but not limited to biopsies, excisions, and Mohs surgery
- Communicate clinical instructions to patients and provide procedural support and education
- Accurately document patient care in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Administer injections and perform suture removals
- Prepare, clean, and stock examination rooms
- Clean, sterilize, and properly maintain medical instruments
- Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards
- Perform other duties as assigned
Schedule:
- 10 hour shift
- Monday-Thursday
