The Director of Accounting oversees day-to-day accounting operations and ensures accurate, timely financial reporting across the organization. This role is responsible for leading the accounting team, managing all aspects of the general ledger, and supporting project, asset, and corporate accounting activities within a growing renewable energy portfolio. Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance & Accounting, the Director partners with cross-functional teams in project development, asset management, and finance to ensure financial integrity, compliance with GAAP, and operational excellence.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance & Accounting, the Director partners with cross-functional teams in project development, asset management, and finance to ensure financial integrity, compliance with GAAP, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
- Lead all general accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and fixed asset management
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP
- Manage accounting for project development, construction-in-progress (CIP), and operating assets, ensuring proper capitalization and cost tracking
- Review journal entries, reconciliations, and account analyses to maintain financial accuracy and transparency
- Prepare and review internal financial statements and management reports, including variance analyses and project-level reporting
- Support the Senior Director in consolidating results for executive leadership and investor reporting
- Coordinate with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to align accounting outcomes with business performance
- Assist with external audits, lender reporting, and tax compliance requirements
- Identify and implement process and system improvements to enhance efficiency, automation, and control within accounting operations
- Collaborate with IT and finance partners on ERP enhancements, integrations, and reporting tools
- Maintain and update accounting policies and procedures to support organizational growth and compliance
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team
- Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and collaboration
- Ensure team members have clear goals, growth opportunities, and resources to succeed
- Ensure adherence to internal control frameworks and SOX readiness (if applicable)
- Maintain accounting compliance with GAAP, company policy, and renewable energy industry standards
- Partner with auditors, lenders, and other stakeholders to ensure data integrity and financial transparency
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred
- 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3–5 years in a leadership role
- Experience in the renewable energy, infrastructure, or power generation sector required or strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of project accounting, asset capitalization, and revenue recognition for power purchase agreements (PPAs) and tax equity structures
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or Workday Financials)
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP, with experience in project cost accounting and asset lifecycle management
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
