Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and dental charts to ensure safe and effective treatment.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to foster lifelong healthy habits.
- Take dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring accurate imaging while adhering to infection prevention protocols.
- Assist the dentist during examinations and procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques for efficiency and patient comfort.
- Maintain accurate electronic health records through Dentrix, documenting all treatments, observations, and patient interactions clearly.
- Follow strict infection control procedures, including aseptic techniques and sterilization of dental equipment, to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Monitor patient vital signs before procedures to assess overall health status and identify any contraindications.
- Manage patient communication effectively by explaining treatment plans, answering questions, and ensuring confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Experience
- Proven experience working as a Dental Hygienist within a general and pediatric dentistry setting.
- Familiarity with dental software- Dentrix for managing electronic health records.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy relevant to dentistry, and medical imaging techniques including X-ray procedures.
- Strong understanding of infection prevention management, aseptic techniques, and healthcare infection control standards.
- Ability to perform dental assisting duties such as chairside assisting during various procedures efficiently.
- Excellent client communication skills with the ability to educate patients on dental care practices effectively.
