SHIPFITTER Derecktor is looking for full time Shipfitter to fabricate and layout metal for building and repairing ships. In this role, you will lay out and fabricate metal structural parts, such as plates, bulkheads, and frames, and brace them in position within hull of ship for welding. Align parts in relation to each other and install temporary fasteners to hold part in place for welding. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Comprehend blueprints, sketches, and templates. Ability to identify interferences or discrepancies in plans and drawings Understand shipyard operation and safety protocol. Fitting, setting, and installing fabricated vessel structures to marine QA/QC tolerances. Cutting and welding with a variety of processes. Metal cutting, forming, bending, finishing, and rigging, primarily in aluminum or steel alloys. Ability to disassemble, assemble, weld, repair, design, and layout plate or pipe materials. Lay out and fabricate metal structural parts, such as bulkheads, and frames; and brace them in position within hull for welding. Lay out position of parts on metals, working from blueprints or templates, and using scribe and hand tools. Install packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories such as pipes, doors, hatches, brackets, and clips. May prepare jigs and templates for fabrication of non-standard parts. May roll, bend, flange, cut, and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts using shop machinery; such as plate roll, presses, brakes, shears and joggle machine. Example Projects: Sheet metal fabrication shop work. Assemble structural parts. Installing structure on the ship, either inside the shop or in the field. Cutting and washing panels. Reinstalling flat bars, welding the new piece installed. Laying out for fitting and welding. Installing frames, T-beam, flat bars, bulb flats. Fabricates foundations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong mechanical and mathematical aptitude. Adapt to changes quickly and seamlessly. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work efficiently in all types of weather conditions. Knowledge of blueprints, welding symbols, piping components, and welding techniques. Knowledge of marine welding standards Knowledge of marine welding QA/QC methods English proficiency required, Spanish fluency a plus Required Qualifications: Proven track record of successfully leading and delivering complex projects from start to finish, on time and within budget. Strong understanding of shipyard operations, welding, metals fabrication, machining, etc. Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Certificate in welding, metals fabrication, machining, etc.
