Job Summary:

Maintain clean orderly health room; maintain inventory of health room supplies; mass vision and hearing screening of students as directed by the nurse; immunizations: proceduresand records; health record system; assisted self-administration of medications per DPS medication policy; direct care of ill/injured students; performs a task as delegated by

Nurse.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides basic first aid and emergency care to injured and ill students and staff as directed by nurse, assists the school nurse in doing health screenings of students, administers medication in accordance with DPS policy and procedure, assists school

nurse in maintaining health records on all students, responds constructively to supervision. 

Bilingual strongly preferred.

Performs other duties as requested and assigned by the building principal.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma, current CPR certified, First Aid Trained
• NM Department of Health and Public Education Department training for school health assistants

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 
• Ability to write simple correspondence. 
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to
• students, parents, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid driver's license, School Health Assistant license, CPR & First Aid current certificates.
