Job Description

**ALL APPLICANTS MUST BE PERMANENT IN THE CIVIL SERVICE TITLE OF PRINCIPAL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSOCIATE. THIS IS A NIGHT SHIFT POSITION (23:30-07:30).**

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.

The Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations is seeking to hire a candidate for the title of Principal Administrative Associate I in the Division of BWSO Field Operations Emergency Communication Center. Selected candidate will act as the primary coordination hub for agency field operations and manage critical communications to ensure rapid response to environmental and infrastructure incidents. Core duties include generating and managing service requests using the Information Public Sector system for conditions reported by city agencies or utilities and monitoring 311 and NYCEM alert systems for potential impacts such as chemical spills or power outages. Candidate will also execute impact-based notification models to inform senior management of emergencies and draft situational reports for major events to maintain agency awareness.

Additional responsibilities involve acting as a central point of contact for facility alarms across various bureaus and fielding after hours calls via the Bureau of Police and Security hotline. Candidate will send notifications to multi bureau staff for a wide range of high priority events including utility failures and roadway closures. They will also be responsible for maintaining constant situational awareness by monitoring multiple radio frequencies and ensuring all operational documentation and call tracking logs are completed with technical precision. Furthermore, candidate will assist in the activation of specialized emergency response frameworks during weather events or other triggered agency operations to ensure a uniform execution of daily field support.

Appointments are subject to OMB approval.
