The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking a Dietitian to provide comprehensive dietary and nutrition services for our inmate population. The Dietitian will closely collaborate with the ADCRR Food Services Administrator and contracted Food Services providers to ensure compliance with State and Federal nutrition standards. This position will also partner with ADCRR Programs, Health Services, and the Employee Wellness Unit to promote nutrition education, wellness initiatives, and training for both staff and inmates.
-Works with the Contracted Healthcare Provider (CHP) for Food Services and Healthcare regarding dietary plans and provides input and approval as needed
-Meets with the ADCRR contracted Food Services Administrator monthly to ensure contract requirements are being adhered to
-Reviews and approves nutritional assessments, meal plans, care plans and non-formulary diet requests in coordination with healthcare and food service teams
-Participates in Care Plan and clinical meetings, providing dietary counseling and expert guidance on nutritional standards and patient care concerns
-Conducts audits, chart reviews, and site visits to evaluate compliance and identifies opportunities for improvement
-Collaborates with the Employee Wellness Unit and Programs staff to deliver nutrition and wellness education to both employees and inmates
-Monitors food services operations to ensure compliance with contract requirements, proper food preparations, portion control , and quality assurance standards
-Develops, implements and evaluates statewide nutrition policies, dietary procedures and staff training programs
-Collaborates in developing and maintaining dietary manuals, policies, procedures and request for proposals
-Prepares and submits reports, tracks and follows up on dietary or patient care issues and participates in performance improvement and Lean Process initiatives
-Represents ADCRR at meetings, training and conferences related to food service, health and nutrition initiatives
-Travels statewide to correctional facilities to conduct monitoring, provide training and offer technical assistance
-Drives on State Business
-Other duties as related to the position
Knowledge of:
-Federal, State and Departmental nutrition and dietary regulations, including USDA and ADCRR food service standards
-Principles and practices of dietetics, nutrition science, and therapeutic diet planning
-Nutritional assessment procedures and development of individualized nutrition care plans based on therapeutic and medical needs
-Food composition, dietary allowances and specialized feeding requirements for correctional populations
-Menu planning, food safety and sanitation practices within large-scale and correctional food service operations
-Public health nutrition, health promotion and wellness education strategies for both staff and incarcerated individuals
-Administrative processes including policy development, budgeting, and contract management for nutrition and food service programs
-Program evaluation and quality improvement methods including data collection, analysis, and reporting to enhance service effectiveness and compliance
Skill in:
-Interpreting and applying nutrition standards and correctional dietary policies
-Developing and implementing nutrition education and wellness programs
-Conducting compliance reviews, audits, and corrective action planning
-Managing multiple projects, timelines and stakeholder relationships
-Preparing and delivering effective presentations and training sessions
-Communicating clearly and professional in written and verbal formats
Ability to:
-Work collaboratively and professional with correctional administrator, contracted providers and clinical staff
-Analyze data and program outcomes to make evidence-based recommendations that improve nutrition and dietary services
-Evaluate the effectiveness and compliance of healthcare and dietary services through audit, reports and performance reviews
-Compose clear, concise and professional correspondence and reports to communicate finding, recommendations and updates
-Conduct research, assess complex issues and provide informed responses to inquires and concerns
-Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support program success
-Adapt to changing departmental needs and regulatory updates in a dynamic correctional environment
-Travel statewide to conduct site monitoring
-Provide technical assistance and provide in meeting and trainings
-Work effectively with a correctional setting, maintain professionalism, safety awareness and operational compliance
Candidates must be a Registered Dietitian RDN
Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation.
