Western State Hospital, part of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), has been a leader in psychiatric treatment since 1828. WSH is a 302-bed Joint Commission/CMS-accredited psychiatric facility located in the scenic Shenandoah Valley. Position Overview:
Western State Hospital is seeking a full time Lead Rehab Assistant to assist in the development and implementation of training /therapeutic interventions within the psychosocial treatment program and provide community recreation programming and vocational training available to all clients of Western State Hospital.

Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and conduct 18 - 20 hours of psychosocial rehabilitation interventions per week, according to approved schedules
  • Ensures that activities are age appropriate and reflect clients' needs, interests, and abilities as reflected by assessment data
  • Assists supervisor in planning, organizing, and evaluating classes for community recreation program
  • Conducts 10-12 hours of community recreation programming during afternoon and evening hours
  • Assists with the implementation of special events and open leisure programming
  • Supervises 4-8 hours per week of instruction for clients in vocational training
  • Will maintain documentation and statistics of attendance of community recreation programming
  • Will attend at least 6 hours of in-service training per year

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License

Additional Considerations

  • Experience leading and supervising recreational activities
  • College courses in recreation, leisure, vocational, recreational therapy or occupational therapy field
  • Experience working with special populations and working in mental health
  • Bilingual
  • Veteran or veteran spouse
