JOB DESCRIPTION and QUALIFICATIONS:
Depew Union Free School District
The Depew Union Free School District is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented professional to serve as Senior Payroll Clerk (Confidential). This position is responsible for coordinating and maintaining the District's payroll processes and records while ensuring the accurate and timely payment of employees and maintaining strict confidentiality of personnel and payroll information.
Typical Duties
- Coordinate and process payroll for all District employees.
- Review and verify personnel appointments, payroll changes, and related authorizations.
- Review time and attendance records for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain payroll records, employee salary histories, appointment records, and related files.
- Verify payroll calculations and conduct payroll audits to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and District procedures.
- Prepare and submit required federal, state, retirement system, and other payroll-related reports.
- Reconcile payroll accounts, deductions, and benefit payments.
- Assist employees and supervisors with payroll-related questions and procedures.
- Provide guidance regarding payroll procedures and reporting requirements.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Maintain confidentiality of employee records and sensitive information.
- Supervise payroll clerical staff, if assigned.
- Perform related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet Erie County Civil Service requirements for the position of Senior Payroll Clerk, including:
- Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma; and
- Five (5) years of office experience, three (3) years of which involved maintaining payroll records and reports.
Preferred Qualifications
- School district or municipal payroll experience.
- Experience with Wincap Financial/Payroll software.
- Knowledge of New York State Retirement System reporting requirements.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
