Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Dependable Hydraulic & Hydrostatic Service, located in North Branford, CT presently has an opening for a Truck Mechanic. (40 Hours; Pay Rate $25.00 to $30.00/hr. DOE) Minimum Age Requirement - 18

Our original office is in Amityville, New York, and we have a second location in North Branford, CT. Both locations repair, service, and sell all types of hydraulic components, pumps, valves, motors, hydraulic winches, gear boxes, collectors, accumulators, steering boxes, cylinders, and many more. We also have a full machine shop at both locations that perform various types of machine work. We perform line boring on-site, to repair cranes, excavators, knuckle booms and more.
Job Summary
Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electro-mechanical systems, pneumatic and hydraulic machines, aerial devices, dump trucks, trailers, tractors, backhoes, skid steers, vacuum trucks, etc. Control downtime by performing routine preventive maintenance techniques and working closely with operators on keeping machines running at peak operation while maintaining the highest safety standards. No previous hydraulic or hydrostatic experience needed, just mechanical experience at least two years. Electrical and welding is a plus.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines.
- Thoroughly clean machines and machine parts, removing parts and reinstalling as necessary.
- Oil and lubricate moving parts on machines to ensure effective performance.
- Record and report damaged, worn, or broken parts.
- Order and install replacement parts for machines.
- Identify the causes of unexpected breakdowns of machines.
- Maintain accurate records of all inspections, tests, and repairs.
- Work with a sense of urgency to reduce downtime of machines.
- Perform root cause failure analysis to eliminate repeat occurrences on maintenance issues.
- Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory levels.
- Work closely with other mechanics to anticipate needed equipment, parts, and supplies.
- Assume active role in overall plant and facilities-related work.
- Follow all company and OSHA safety policies & procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Mechanically inclined with great problem-solving skills.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to troubleshoot from reading hydraulic and pneumatic prints, blueprints, schematics, and specifications a plus
- Background with diesel, hydraulic and electronic experience very helpful.
- Welding experience a plus
- Electrical experience a plus
- Forklift experience a plus
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods standing and walking.
- Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
- Must be able to visually inspect machines.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
