The Division of Sidewalk & Inspection Management (SIM) is responsible for maintaining 12,750 miles of sidewalk and more than 185,000 corners throughout the city. The Office of Special Events oversees the coordination of all public events in New York City on behalf of the Department of Transportation. Our mission involves strategic planning, development, and analysis to minimize the impact of these events on the city's infrastructure, public spaces, facilities, and transportation while showcasing New York City as the preeminent destination for events.

The Office of Special Events is seeking to hire a College Aide to assist with administrative and operational tasks that support the office’s daily functions. The selected candidate will perform general clerical duties including data entry, filing, and maintaining electronic and physical records, as well as updating spreadsheets and documents using Microsoft Excel and Word and creating presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint. Responsibilities also include organizing inspection reports, maintaining tracking spreadsheets and office databases, and assisting with administrative tasks related to the Citywide Banner Program and ceremonial street co-naming's, including organizing applications, supporting documentation, and ensuring records are accurate and up to date. The candidate may also assist with processing film requests and organizing related documentation. This position offers an opportunity to gain experience in city government operations while supporting programs that contribute to public events and community recognition across New York.

Preference will be given to candidates proficient in the following programs: Outlook, Excel and Word.

Minimum Qualifications


For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.

Residency Requirement


New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
