Applicant lists may be screened more than once.The Bridge Bureau supports the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) Districts by providing technical expertise in bridge design, inspection, and maintenance. Within the Bridge Bureau are engineers and technicians who perform bridge design, bridge detailing, bridge inspections, maintenance of bridge inventory, bridge load ratings, bridge services during construction, and bridge specification writing. The Bridge Bureau is involved in every bridge in the State through all stages of a bridge's life: preliminary design, design, construction, routine inspection, maintenance/rehabilitation projects, demolition, and replacement.

Why does the job exist?
The Bridge Engineer Manager will provide designs of bridges and structures for various transportation projects statewide, provide construction technical support for various bridge/structural projects , as well as supervise and direct other bridge/structural engineers and technicians within the Design Unit. Additional duties will include assisting with bridge load ratings, bridge inspections and emergency situations.How does it get done?
The primary responsibilities of this Bridge Engineer Manager will include:- Determine the project scope, including specifications and requirements, and plan out bridge and structural projects to meet these needs and appropriate costs for bridge work items.
- Determine when bridge details and plans are complete and ready for review and distribution.
- Perform miscellaneous bridge/structural related tasks as directed by the Design Section Manager and the State Bridge Engineer.
- Evaluate fabricator shop drawings for bridge and structural components to ensure they meet contract specifications and are accurate for construction.

The ideal candidate will have preferred education and/or experience in the following:- Professional Engineer (PE) License in Civil Engineering as certified by the New Mexico Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Professional Surveyors (NMBLPEPS).
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution, with a focus on relevant advanced structural engineering disciplines.
- Proficiency in Computer Aided Drafting/Design (AutoCAD), Mathcad, Excel and bridge design software/programs.
- Bridge/structural design calculations and plan preparation, and design and construction specifications.
- Demonstrated supervising and management experience.
- Proficiency writing technical reports.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant engineering discipline with licensure and five (5) years of engineering experience, one (1) of which must be as a Licensed Professional Engineer. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Must be certified by the NMBLPEPS as a Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing within six (6) months of hire.Employment Requirements
Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Business Reference check and Driver's License verification are required and employment is conditional pending results.Working Conditions
Work is substantially performed in an office setting with occasional field visits. Extensive use of computer monitors, exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT), extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Exposure to: inclement weather, traffic, construction equipment, heights, confined spaces, hazardous chemicals and rugged terrain at bridge sites. This position will require periodic site visits to bridge structures and assistance in the inspection of bridges. Travel throughout the state and occasional out of state travel may be required.
