Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
This Assistant to the Director of Field Operations position assists the director in coordinating, developing, directing, and providing leadership on division objectives, policies, procedures, activities, and strategies.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Assist the Director with management and administrative tasks by coordinating activities of highly complex multifaceted statewide programs and activities.
- Directs the preparation and monitoring of the budgets for the Division of Field Operations, Division of Project Delivery, Division of Safety, Bureau of Maintenance, Bureau of Construction and Materials, Bureau of Research, and the six Districts.
- Coordinate with the Crew Card Timekeeping System administrator to report labor, equipment, and material usage.
- Participates in establishing Division priorities and allocation of resources.
- Directs studies or investigations that involve the review of a specific issue, problem or policy and recommend solutions, policy revisions, or other corrective actions.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Five years of experience in planning, organizing, and directing the work of a department, program, or agency.
- Five years of experience in project, program, or grant management.
- Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered.
- Knowledge of time keeping systems.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Valid Driver’s License at time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of KDOT Crew Card system.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Leadership skills in conducting studies and chairing committees.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in preparation of reports relating to State, KDOT, and Division of Field Operations policies and programs.
- Ability to work with all levels of policy makers, administration, state employees, and the general public.
- Ability to interpret regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Problem solving and management skills including the ability to manage multiple work assignments with competing deadlines.
