Accounting Technician GS-0525 Position Overview The DOI mission involves keeping track of many thousands of financial transactions: timber sales payments, rents, employee payrolls, recreational permit fees, royalties and electric service payments are just a few examples. Accounting Technicians provide essential support by processing receipts and payments accurately and efficiently and verifying and maintaining accurate accounting records. Career Level Requirements Responsibilities by Level Entry: Reviewing and classifying data/transactions for consistency Examining and processing vouchers, purchase orders or payments Identifying and closing out overdue accounting transactions Entering data into accounting systems; Analyzing and reconciling accounts Auditing routine transactions and resolving discrepancies Mid: Examining accounts and researching and resolving challenging reconciliation problems Advising systems developers on accounting system user requirements Recommending procedural changes and innovative solutions to increase accuracy and prevent discrepancies Leading a team of lower level technicians Strengths by Level Entry 4-6 Mid 7-9 Accountability Holds self and others accountable for measurable high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results.
