Job Duties

About the Position:

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Secretary Senior at the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Division II Field Office in Culpeper, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Being responsible for the administration and organization of records and files within the Field Office.
  • Providing assistance with the prioritization and coordination of office duties.
  • Reviewing, making suggestions, preparing and finalizing confidential criminal and administrative correspondence.
  • Processing all leave, meals and overtime transactions.
  • Retrieving case information via LEAMS and/or other records management systems.
  • Entering information in appropriate records management systems.
  • Sending and receiving electronic mail.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • General office and clerical practices and procedures.
  • Basic mathematics.
  • Office equipment.
  • Standard English grammar, spelling, punctuation and usage.

Skill in:

  • The use of computers and using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Typing/keyboarding.

Ability to:

  • Manage and organize general office operations.
  • Establish priorities and make independent decisions.
  • Analyze and solve problems.
  • Expedite workflow and daily office functions.
  • Interpret, apply, retain, and recall policies, procedures, and written and oral instructions.
  • Compose, prepare, track correspondence, reports and other documents and complete forms.
  • Collect and assemble information.
  • Gather, input and report statistics.
  • Develop formats for special projects and on-going projects through innovative computer usage.
  • Communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing with the public and Agency staff.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Secretarial experience required.
  • Administrative experience performing a variety of clerical and administrative duties required.
  • Experience in data entry required.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
