What are the responsibilities and job description for the ANALYST II position at Department of State Hospitals?
The Analyst II will be directed by the Supervisor I in Forensic Services at the Department of State Hospitals – Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:
- Maintains the accuracy and timeliness of maximum commitment dates for all hospital legal classes.
- Serve as a liaison for internal and external stakeholders on inquiries related to any legal class.
- Make arithmetical computations to determine maximum commitment date applying applicable custody credits and enhancements according to Penal Code.
- Analyze and interpret forensic reports, court orders and subpoenas, recognizing discrepancies and requesting correction as needed.
- Communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Responsible for cross training on all legal desks, providing backup to other analysts, and the ability to fully process all duties outlined in all legal desk procedures.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet the minimum qualifications stated in the examination bulletin/classification specifications on the CalHR website. Because this is a new classification, formerly known as Associate Governmental Program Analyst, please be advised the minimum qualifications have changed. The new minimum qualifications may not be updated on the classification specifications.
The minimum qualifications for Analyst II are:
- Four years of work experience performing analytical, technical, clerical, and/or customer service duties. Academic education from an accredited college/university may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis; and
- An additional year of professional analytical and/or technical experience equivalent to an Analyst I, Range C.

Working Conditions
- This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule after the probationary period has been completed. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the department and is subject to change as business needs arise.
