Summary of Duties
As a Family Coach Navigator you will:

Family Assessment & Coaching
Assist SNAP participants in becoming independent, healthy, and safe through ongoing coaching, collaboration, and coordination.
Coaches SNAP participants, through a minimum of monthly contact, by establishing goals that are rewarding to the participant.
E&T Services:
- Interview to determine employment goals and the need for E&T services. E&T’s goal is to help individuals to obtain a career pathway that achieves long term self-sufficiency.
Employment Services:
- Through assessment and conversations with the individual, identify both short-term and long-range career and life goals. Through the assessment, determine the individual’s skills, strengths and work history in order to create a referral plan that builds on the goals and moves the participant towards a career pathway and self sufficiency
Professional Relationships
- Promotes individual and family self-sufficiency by participating in branch teams and on committees that look for more effective and efficient ways to provide services.
Professional Development
- Continually seeks to develop and improve effectiveness by enhancing communication skills in the areas of giving and receiving constructive feedback, negotiating solutions, personal effectiveness, conflict resolution and team effectiveness.
Minimum Qualifications
A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required for this position.
- A bachelor's degree in a Behavioral Science, Social Science, or a closely related field;
OR
- A bachelor's degree in any field and one year of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing);
OR
- An associate degree in a Behavioral Science, Social Science or a closely related field and two years of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing);
OR
- Three years of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing).

We are looking for candidates with:
- Communication: Experience explaining technical information such as complex rules, regulations, or procedures to customers who are unfamiliar with the subject and/or learn and communicate differently than you. Ability to read non-verbal signals. Break down information into pieces deliver it with confidence. Succinct and clear messaging. Able to use relatable examples for complex information. Repeats back information to ensure understanding.
- Critical & Creative Thinking: Ability to make decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, knowledge, experience and judgement in a timely manner. Apply both rational and creative processes to identify root cause. Regularly monitor implemented solutions to evaluate effectiveness and efficiency. Calculate and anticipate long-term consequences of a decision.
- Trauma Informed Customer Service: Calm, approachable, and professional demeanor that delivers quality customer service daily by telephone, in writing or in person. Ability to demonstrate active listening and compassion to serve diverse customer needs including when customers are in high distress. Knowledge of the impact of trauma on others and yourself, understanding and utilizing tools to support self and others in regulating during times of stress; as well as identifying and supporting the system change needed to reduce re-traumatization.
- Time Management & Organization: Ability to remain organized and prioritize work tasks and responsibilities appropriately. Must be self-motivated and have good time management skills. Ability to ask for help, stress management. Delegates when necessary. Has organizational list/tracking. Can see big picture with daily task for customer.
- Team Player: Demonstrated commitment to developing relationships that establish trust, approachability, and flexibility amongst individuals with diverse learning and communication styles. Inclusive and respectful of others’ contributions and ideas. Includes rather than excludes team members. Focuses on positive contributions rather than negative. Seeks to understand rather than correct.

Working Conditions
This job is a fast-paced position that include a high volume of individual and family contact, collaboration with various community agencies, as well as computer entry and tracking and requires cultural/racial diversity and sensitivity. Employee’s work is conducted in offices and other community sites. Employee has contact with a wide range of people including some exhibiting anger and frustration under stressful conditions. Participants may be drug or alcohol-affected and in need of treatment. The employee will be exposed to and need to deal with a range of emotionally charged issues, confronting where necessary.
Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. If no driver’s license, must be able to provide alternate method of transportation. Some overnight travel may be required to attend statewide meetings and trainings.
Hours of work may vary from day to day and may include evenings and weekends.
This is a regular work schedule with a normal workday of 8 hours. The usual work hours will be in-office from 8 AM to 5 PM. However, when in the interest of operational needs, the starting and stopping times for a particular 8-hour day may be adjusted. Occasional compensated overtime maybe required. All overtime must be pre-approved by supervisor before working it.
