APPLICANT LISTS MAY BE SCREENED MORE THAN ONCE.The Center for Access and Linkage to Health Care (CALHC) in the Public Health Division provides a range of public health services in Public Health Offices (PHO) and mobile clinics across the state within five regional public health areas.
Public Health Nurses across the center support and deliver various public health programs and clinical services such as communicable disease investigation and response, tuberculosis, STD screening and treatment, immunizations, and family planning, through advocacy, adherence to clinical protocols, standing orders and policies and procedures.
Why does the job exist?
The Public Health Division (PHD) received capital outlay funds from the legislature to purchase five (5) mobile public health units. The legislature funded a base increase starting in SFY2026 to support designated staffing and operations of these units to provide mobile public health services to persons experiencing homelessness and other groups with health disparities. This Mobile Public Health Nurse Supervisor will lead a team of nurses and program coordinators in providing public health interventions on the mobile unit to reach underserved populations in rural, frontier, urban and tribal parts of the state.How does it get done?
The Mobile Public Health Nurses will perform the following roles:1) Supervise a team of registered nurses and program coordinators to provide priority public health services across the Northwest Region.
2) Ensure and support members of the mobile unit team in coordinating logistics for the mobile units including serving as a driver, working with regional staff on all maintenance issues to keep the unit ready for operations, and assisting with scheduling in coordination with internal and external partners.
3) Provide priority public health services conducted on the unit within the scope and licensing of a Registered Nurse and working under clinical protocols and Standing Orders of the Public Health Division (PHD).
4) Ensure compliance with pharmacy regulatory requirements and CLIA laboratory requirements. Report on outreach events using the approved data collection system such as RedCap.
5) Provide the same services in Public Health Offices (PHO), as assigned, during times when mobile units are not in operation.
Who are the customers?
Rural and underserved communities including persons who are not stably housed and other community members who are disproportionately impacted by health conditions whose access to public health services can be improved using mobile health units.Ideal Candidate
Experience leading public health interventions for communicable disease or other priority areas of public health.Experience providing public health interventions and health services in non-traditional settings including community venues and mobile health services.
Skills for this position include: staff supervision, ability to direct work efforts of a team of staff towards a concrete goal, nursing experience, critical thinking, ability to work autonomously, utilizing a Systems Approach and being a team player, including participation in statewide emergency response.
Minimum Qualification
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and five (5) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Extensive computer usage including Electronic Health Records.Driving 25' mobile public health unit. Working on board that unit.
