After an initial probationary period, this position allows for partial telework with manager approval. Job Description: In this position, you will serve as an epidemiologist focused on viral hepatitis and other infectious diseases in Maine. You will be responsible for conducting public health surveillance of viral hepatitis illnesses and will serve as secondary subject matter expert for one or more other infectious diseases. This position initiates public health actions to control and/or prevent the spread of these infectious diseases in Maine. You will develop, manage, and evaluate statewide infectious disease surveillance systems; conduct public health interventions; participate in outbreak investigations; and provide consultation on reportable disease conditions to protect the health of Maine citizens and visitors. This position is within the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Program at the Maine CDC Division of Disease Surveillance. You will also: • Coordinate the collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of surveillance data regarding viral hepatitis to stakeholders. • Coordinate the investigation of active cases of viral hepatitis. • Collaborate with Infectious Disease Preventionists to perform public health interventions by providing accurate, timely data. • Provide professional consultations to program epidemiologists, healthcare partners, and the public. • Prepare and disseminate technical reports for statewide and federal partners. • Monitor national and international disease trends and emerging threats. • Provide input to public health policy initiatives based on surveillance and evaluation to reduce barriers to disease control and prevention. • Communicate epidemiological surveillance information effectively and accurately. • Coordinate the state-sponsored quarterly Viral Hepatitis workgroup. • Assist the Hepatitis and Harm Reduction Program Manager with writing the hepatitis grant and completion of required reporting. • Participate on the Maine HIV/AIDS Advisory Board (MeHAAB). • Collaborate with Infectious Disease epidemiologists to help improve program operations. • Participate in daily Infectious Disease Epidemiology morning conference call on business days. • Serve as Epidemiologist-On-Call and After-Hours On Call on a rotating basis. Minimum Qualifications: A Masters Degree in Epidemiology or closely related field or a Bachelors Degree in Epidemiology or closely related field and two (2) years professional experience in epidemiology. Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. Preferred candidates will also have: o Knowledge of and experience with infectious disease epidemiology, particularly viral hepatitis. o Excellent oral and written communication skills. o Knowledge and experience with drafting technical disease information for a range of audiences, from health care providers to the general public. o Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of internal and external partners. o Extensive database skills including creation, management, and integration of diverse datasets. o Experience performing in-depth data analysis using statistical software such as SAS (preferred), R, or other programs. o The ability to participate in strategic discussions and help groups to reach decisions to further the mission of the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Program. o Experience in or working knowledge of clinical laboratory testing.
