The primary purpose of this position is to perform a wide range of highly technical and semi-professional procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the application of ultrasonic examinations of diagnostic quality for patients of all age groups.
A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021). EDUCATION: There is no educational requirements. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-0649-10 :
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Independently performing a wide range of highly technical and semi-professional ultrasound procedures to include but not limited to Abdominal and Small Parts, Obstetric/Gynecological, Carotid, Vascular & Muscular.
Selective Placement Factor Certification: Must hold and maintain current certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), or a combination of both certifying bodies. The certification(s) must include credentials in at least one of the following: Obstetrics & Gynecology (RDMS-OB/GYN or ARRT-S), Abdomen (RDMS-AB or ARRT-S), and Vascular (RVT or ARRT-VS). Applicants must provide a copy of registration with expiration date.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

- Performs a wide range of complex ultrasound procedures and studies. Includes obstetrical/gynecological, abdominal, vascular, small parts, cranial, transthoracic, and trans esophageal, and cardiology exams.
- Correlates clinical history of patients, pertinent clinical data, lab tests and other ancillary diagnostic exams to determine and obtain ultrasound exams of optimal clinical value.
- Receives and positions patients for exams, explains procedures to conduct ultrasound examinations, adjusts techniques and equipment as necessary to obtain a superior imaging exam.
- Serves as a clinical instructor for students from certain colleges, schools of ultrasound. Provides clinical instruction and technical imagining training for Diagnostic Medical Sonography students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
