Under the supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), in the Lands Program, the Wildlife Habitat Assistant is responsible for supporting wildfire resilience and habitat projects, facilities management, and maintenance and development activities on California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) owned and managed properties in Region 6, primarily in Mono and Inyo Counties.

This position is a 12-month Limited Term (LT) and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

Working Conditions
Involves regularly working outside in inclement weather and harsh conditions. Areas include uneven terrain in various environments. Requires ability to operate and drive numerous types of heavy equipment such as Tractors, dump trucks, backhoes, dozers and 4x4 vehicles, and willingness to drive to remote locations, lift heavy objects, endure ticks and mosquitos, and ability to change hours of work due to area activities. Perform heavy manual labor, work in adverse weather conditions, and wear a prescribed uniform. State housing may be available and required. Occasional weekend work and overnight travel up to 25% may be required.
