As a Fish Health Lab Technician (Biological Science Assistant) in La Grande, Oregon you will:

  • Assist in the monitoring of fish health at public fish hatcheries in Northeast Oregon and at tribal co-managed facilities

  • Assist microbiologists and fish pathologists in running diagnostic assays in the field and the laboratory

  • Collect tissues from fish in the field and in the lab to be analyzed for pathogen presence and load

  • Maintain equipment, laboratory organization and cleanliness, and biological sample recording and storage for Fish Health Services laboratory in La Grande

  • Order supplies and maintain stocked supplies and equipment

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Minimum qualifications are not established for this position; however, we are seeking applicants with the following experience or skills. Preference for interviews may be given to candidates with these skills and background:

  • Fisheries experience

  • Experience working in a scientific laboratory setting

  • Microbiology experience

  • Experience using systematic approach to workflow

  • Animal health sciences experience

  • Experience collecting and handling biological samples

  • Experience collecting, recording and maintaining data

  • Experience with Quality Control and Quality Assurance

  • Anyone who has or is in pursuit of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree, Animal Sciences, or Microbiology/Biology or related degree in biological/ecological sciences
