Initial Posting Date: 08/10/2022 Application Deadline: 08/22/2022 Agency: Department of Corrections Salary Range: $3,296 - $4,714 Position Type: Employee Position Title: Dental Assistant 1 (Lakeview/Madras) Job Description: Dental Assistant 1 Warner Creek Correctional Facility/Deer Ridge Correctional Institution (Lakeview/Madras) Oregon Department of Corrections The Oregon Department of Corrections has a Dental Assistant 1 opening based out of Warner Creek Correctional Facility in Lakeview, Oregon. This position will be required to travel and work two weeks out of each month at the Deer Ridge Correctional Institution in Madras, Oregon. Costs of travel are paid for by the Department of Corrections standard per diem is allowed. This recruitment can be used to fill future vacancies. This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute. Position Overview Your primary duties will be to facilitate patient dental care by providing direct assistance to the dentist while performing chairside procedures and to assure instruments, supplies, and equipment are properly maintained and available for patient care. Duties in Detail In this position you will work directly under the state license of an assigned ODOC staff dentist. You will be required to always follow the directives of the dentist as they relate to patient dental treatment. You will work very closely with the dentist and information regarding patient care. You will also provide direct chairside assistance to the dentist during dental procedures; assure that chairside skills conform and are optimized to treatment methodology of the assigned dentist, assuring patient safety, and maximizing clinic productivity. Manage dental materials, instruments, and equipment. Assures proper cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilization procedures for instruments and equipment. Assure adequate stock of dental materials with proper expiration dates. Maintain dental handpieces. Manage instrument inventory and security counts. Assure security is maintained over all instruments and equipment. Maintain dental burs as directed by assigned dentist. Prepare the dental operatory for patient treatment, assuring all infection control guidelines are followed. Assure proper instruments and supplies are set up in a neat and orderly fashion for specific dental procedures as directed by assigned dentist. Coordinate maintenance and repair of equipment with DOC staff and contracted technicians. Conduct inventories; order tools and supplies as needed to assure adequate quantities available. You will respond to written and verbal requests for treatment or coordinates response from provider. Assure treatment lists are accurate and current to keep the data information in Microsoft word or excel formats, or in the applicable software. Minimum Qualifications Six months of general support experience or equivalent training and experience; AND A valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation card at the time of appointment. Must be able to obtain certification by the Oregon State Board of Dentistry for Radiologic Proficiency within four months of appointment. Requested Skills Ability to follow the directives of the dentist regarding patient dental treatment; Work with confidential information regarding patient care; Provide direct chairside assistance to the dentist; Manage dental materials, instruments, and equipment; Stock of dental materials with expiration dates; Proper cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilization procedures for instruments, and equipment; Manage and conduct instrument inventory with security counts; Coordinate maintenance and repair of equipment; Respond to written and verbal requests for treatments; Coordinates responses from provider; Maintain and save data information in applicable software; Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; Ability to work with adults in custody; Ability to maintain a high standard of performance, personal integrity, and conduct; Interpret and apply statutes, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Preferred Skills Experience working in a correctional environment. Special Qualifications Valid driver’s license. Working Conditions This position will be required to travel and work two weeks out of each month at the Deer Ridge Correctional Institution in Madras, Oregon. Must be able to acknowledge that everyone is capable of positive change. This position requires contact with Adults in Custody (AICs). Requires walking or standing for long period of time. Requires climbing and descending stairs. Possible exposure to chemicals, radiation, communicable diseases, or other hazards inherent in health care and correctional setting. Supervision and control of AICs in an inherent responsibility. Requirements for Employment You must be able to pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following convictions are likely to result in being disqualified for this position: felony convictions, computer theft, identify theft and fraud. CJIS clearance is done at the conditional job offer. Pre-Employment Check The executive order that mandated vaccination or an exception to the vaccine requirement ended March 31, 2022. OSHA rules require that some positions (health care settings, health care professionals) still have the mandate. We have added a verification question, COVID-19 Vaccination Status, to the pre-employment questionnaire for those positions an agency determines meet the criteria for the vaccination requirement. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range.
