Job Duties

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) is seeking a qualified professional to serve as the Director of Compliance and Risk Management. This position provides enterprise leadership and oversight for regulatory compliance, accreditation readiness, and risk management oversight across DBHDS operated facilities. This position ensures adherence to federal and state regulatory requirements and accrediting body standards, while supporting safe, effective, and compliant service delivery throughout the facility system. In addition, this position develops and implements a comprehensive compliance and risk management framework that identifies regulatory vulnerabilities, monitors compliance trends, and mitigates organizational risk; collaborates closely with facility leadership, clinical and operational leadership, OAG, and Central Office leadership to coordinate regulatory oversight, manage responses to external oversight agencies, and support facilities in maintaining compliance with accreditation and certification standards; and leads enterprise strategies for regulatory survey readiness, incident management oversight, corrective action monitoring, and accessibility compliance programs across DBHDS facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare compliance, accreditation, regulatory oversight, and risk management.
  • Experience with regulatory surveys (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, state agencies).
  • Knowledge of federal and state healthcare regulations and compliance frameworks.
  • Skilled in strategic planning and program oversight.
  • Experience with policy interpretation and regulatory documentation.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and facilitation of collaborative problem solving.
  • Ability to interpret and operationalize complex regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to lead systemwide compliance and risk mitigation initiatives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership, facility leadership and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex healthcare environment, while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Additional Considerations

  • Certification such as CCEP, CPHQ, or CPHRM.
  • Experience in behavioral health or public sector healthcare systems.
  • Experience leading enterprise or multi-site compliance programs.
