Job Duties

The Compliance Manager I serves as the hospital’s Safety Director and Emergency Management Coordinator, providing leadership and oversight for workplace safety, regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, and environmental risk management programs. This position develops, implements, and monitors safety policies, procedures, and corrective action plans to ensure compliance with federal, state, accreditation, and organizational standards, including The Joint Commission requirements. Responsibilities include chairing the Safety Committee and Hospital Emergency Management Committee, conducting safety inspections and emergency preparedness exercises, coordinating staff training, managing hazard vulnerability assessments and emergency operations plans, leading incident investigations and root cause analyses, and maintaining environmental and ligature risk assessments. The role collaborates with executive leadership, department managers, regulatory agencies, and community partners to promote a culture of safety, oversee emergency management planning and response activities, prepare required reports and compliance documentation, and provide guidance on workplace safety, disaster preparedness, and operational risk reduction. The Compliance Manager also supervises staff performance, supports quality improvement initiatives, participates on key hospital committees, and serves as an essential employee during emergencies and disaster response operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of State and Federal Policy, Procedures, Rules and Regulations regarding Risk Management, Human Rights, OSHA, Worker's Compensation, Emergency Management and NFPA;
  • Ability to collect, interpret, manipulate, and present data;
  • Organizational skills and writing skills are essential;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written form with a variety of individuals from a variety of professional backgrounds;
  • Individual must have the ability to write, clearly, concisely and in an extremely organized manner;
  • Extensive administrative knowledge base;
  • High degree of independent initiative and decision-making;
  • Teaching/training skills;
  • Must be able to function independently; and
  • Demonstrated skill in data management, quality, analytics and reporting. Skill in collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data using a variety of informational systems and data files.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and database applications (e.g., Microsoft WORD, EXCEL, Access)
