What are the responsibilities and job description for the ACCOUNTING OFFICER (SPECIALIST) position at Department of General Services?

This position is eligible to telework up to three (3) days a week, in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. This is subject to change based on operational need and/or future return to office orders. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

    Under general direction of the Accounting Administrator I, the Accounting Officer (Specialist) in the Fiscal Services section of the Office of Public School Construction (OPSC) performs duties of average difficulty in accounting, budgetary, and other fiscal related work for the OPSC in order to provide control over the allocation and release of State funds, verify proper reporting, and maintain proper internal controls over all accounting functions. 

    This position may require travel.

    This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship by the start date of employment. The Department of General Services does not participate in E-Verify for employment authorization purposes.

    In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
    • Knowledge of accounting principles and processes.
    • Knowledge and experience in reconciling accounts and preparing year-end financial statements.
    • Ability to pay attention to detail.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to act independently and in a team environment.
    • Proficient in using computer systems and related software tools.
    • Ability to effectively handle stress and deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
