What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kids Ministry Director position at Denver United Church?
The Kid’s Ministry Director provides leadership, organization, and execution of ministry birth-4th grade. This position is responsible for leading kids, their families, and volunteers into further relationship with Jesus through primary oversight of Sunday morning kids ministry services.
Job Responsibilities
Volunteer Management and Leadership
- Lead a thriving team of volunteers overseeing the process of onboarding, scheduling, management, training, and personal care.
- Build upon the current team through recruiting and training of new volunteers.
- Communicate with the volunteer team weekly in a timely, consistent, professional, and Christ like manner.
- Coordinate all classroom leadership schedules for Sunday morning services.
- Train and uphold volunteers in all safety procedures and policies (internal classroom behavior, external expectations and emergency protocol).
Service Management and Leadership
- Write and edit curriculum that is appropriate for specific age groups and that aligns with Denver United’s vision for the Children’s Ministry.
- Prepare classrooms for Sunday morning by collecting, buying, printing, and organizing all curriculum materials.
- General upkeep and management of all classrooms and areas within United Kids.
- Organization and maintenance of all curriculum supplies and storage closet.
- Lead each Sunday morning kids ministry service through logistical coordination, volunteer leadership, and serve as the leader and direct point of contact for all persons (students, parents, volunteers, etc.)
- This will include roles such as teaching in a classroom, leading kids worship, handling behavior issues, managing safety concerns, giving feedback to parents and teachers and the like.
Overall Communication and Vision Execution
- Communicate with families on a monthly basis.
- Plan and execute seasonal events and initiatives such as Christmas, Easter, Summer events etc.
- Craft a scope and sequence of curriculum that is balanced and intentional.
- Operate with a pastors heart while executing the vision of United Kids.
Denver United Team Member
- Contribute to the culture and life of the staff through collaboration and departmental interdependence.
- Integrate into the life of the church. Each staff member is encouraged to practice and particpate in Denver United’s mission of “Live with Jesus, live in family, live on mission.”

- Passion for children and their growth in knowing Jesus.
- Self-secure in Christ and carries a non-anxious presence in stressful situations.
- Clear leadership calling on their life.
Experience/Practical Skill Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years experience working children, ministry, or degree in an adjacent field.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and interpersonal, in communication with adults and children alike).
- Must be able to energetically lead children in a positive and fun way.
- Fluent in Google Suite and Mac systems.
- Ability to learn and work with a variety digital platforms including Planning Center, Grow Curriculum, Canva and MailerLite.
- Strong administrative skills.
- Ability to creatively write and lead kid activities
- Detail oriented (planning/executing in multiple places at once).
Leadership Requirements
- Ability to lead and inspire children, volunteers, and parents through communication, organization, and vision.
- Strong ability to teach, equip, and influence people to follow Jesus.
- Trustworthy and strong work ethic, ability to be a self-starter and anticipate needs of the ministry.
- Can lead in a high energy environment.
- Ability to work with and be sensitive to unique needs of children at different ages/abilities.
