POSITION SUMMARY 

The Director of Safety Compliance plays a critical role in evaluating, designing, implementing, and administering Denver Rescue Mission’s guest, employee, facilities, and volunteer safety and risk programs. This is a highly collaborative role that owns initiatives for enterprise risk management and control practices across key business functions, ensuring that Denver Rescue Mission (DRM) is operating in adherence with critical policies and procedures, including regulation compliance and contractual agreements. These initiatives are designed to minimize exposure to the expense and potential loss of operations associated with employee injury, liability claims, building damage, loss of physical assets or business interruption due to human actions, fire or natural disasters, environmental issues, and regulatory compliance issues. Participates with, interacts, and represents the organization when dealing with third party service providers, insurance providers, and regulatory agencies. This position supports other critical functional areas to ensure compliance with established organizational and business unit policies, practices, programs, and procedures, with the goal of maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all employees, guests, volunteers, and visitors. 


RESPONSIBILITIES 

Safety and Risk Management 

  • Directs employee safety program, including but not limited to, safety for employees, facilities, guests, and volunteers; trainings such as de-escalation and active shooter, and collaborating with the People & Culture department on workman’s compensation analysis. 
  • Develops and implements effective risk management strategies, policies, and procedures. 
  • Oversees issue management processes, including identification, investigation, assessment, and remediation of operational safety risks. Leads after-action reviews as appropriate. 
  • Collaborates with departments to enhance their understanding and management of operational risks and safety legislation and requirements. 
  • Prepares and presents risk assessments and reports to senior management and relevant groups. 
  • Develops, facilitates, and monitors safety and compliance training programs.  
  • Leads Safety Task Force, Safety Committee, and other related work groups. 
  • Audits implementation of safety programs and ensures strategy for sustainable compliance. 
  • Becomes certified in/maintains certification in CPR/First Aid, OSHA, and related functions as assigned.? 
  • Provides staff with information on preventative health measures and protocols.?Works with leadership to prepare and distribute public health notifications, vaccination clinics and address public health emergencies.? 
  • Conducts, or coordinates, investigations on DRM staff incidents related to safety issues in violation of OSHA or other safety policies and prepares reports and recommendations for response and improvements. 
  • Works in conjunction with site managers to perform job hazard analyses to identify specific risks in certain tasks to reduce the risk of injury to employees and participants.  
  • Assesses and measures impact of safety programs and improves current processes or develops new strategies to address risk and ensure compliance. 
  • Partners with all DRM departments to identify the most pressing issues impacting safety and risk management and develop solutions.  

Operations Team Support 

  • Working as part of the Operations Team, assists with organization-wide or department-specific strategic initiatives including meetings, training programs and system conversions. 
  • Assists with special projects, events, and other duties as assigned. 
  • Other job-related job duties as assigned. 

Requirements

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, occupational safety, risk management, or a related field. May substitute for equal time with military experience or law enforcement.  
  • Minimum of five years of increasingly responsible related work experience, including management or supervision of safety and risk management and developing and implementing job-related standards, policies, trainings, and programs. (A combination of education and experience can be substituted). 
  • Broad working knowledge of federal, state, and local safety, health, environmental, and worker's compensation laws and regulations. 
  • Strong understanding of operational and risk management principles and practices. 
  • Experience building cross-functional partnerships and ability to influence stakeholders to act without having a direct reporting relationship. 
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to identify issues and develop solutions. 
  • Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles/Six Sigma methodologies (or related) to drive process improvements or equivalent. 
  • Certification for safety and risk management such as Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM) OSHA Safety Certificate, Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), First Aid, CPR and AED Instructor, or related preferred. 
  • Completion of OSHA 10- or 30-hour training within six months of hire.  
  • Proven interpersonal and relationship building skills.  
  • Proficiency with Office 365 and other applications used by DRM. 
  • Professional demeanor when dealing with confidential and sensitive data and situations. 
  • Must be an initiative-taker who is highly organized, able to prioritize, and highly flexible/adaptable.  
  • Active Driver’s License as a limited amount of work-related travel to all DRM sites is required. Ability to travel to DRM facilities for meetings, trainings, and other related events. 
  • May be required to respond to incidents and issues outside of standard business hours as needed. 
  • Must be a Christian holding to the beliefs set forth in the Statement of Faith, expressed by a personal testimony and Christian conduct.

Salary : $72,600 - $96,800
