- Develops and monitors Advanced Learning Plans (ALPs) to provide academic and affective (social/emotional) support for identified gifted students
- Consults with classroom teachers and provides gifted education-related staff development targeted around school needs based on student, family and staff feedback.
- Provides staff development on strategies and appropriate materials to differentiate the curriculum and challenge gifted learners
- Participates and supports in the school's Mulit-tiered system of supports (MTSS) process as it relates to the support of gifted and advanced students
- Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement
- Monitors, supervises, and enforces rule of conduct and behavior of assigned students; reinforces positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy
- Observes, evaluates, reports, and records student performance, behavior, social development, and physical health and prepares student, attendance, and activity reports as required by administrators
- Establishes and communicates to students clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects; provides advanced instruction to students individually and in groups (caseload and FTE permitting), using various teaching methods and technology and adjusting teaching style and method to meet student learning style
- Prepares, administers, and provides reports to families and teachers regarding student performance on whole grade universal screening assessments and individual assessments related to gifted identification; communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve student behavioral and academic problems and to coordinate instructional efforts, especially in regard to twice exceptional students
- Follows Exceptional Children's Education Act (ECEA) rules and district guidance for identification of gifted and talented students and maintains accurate records of students in need of service
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required. A Master's Degree is only required for Concurrent Enrollment positions.
- Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. Click here for additional information regarding specific requirements and qualifications for the various subject areas (DPS does accept a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days.)
