About this job

The Senior Manager of School Psychology and Assessment provides strategic leadership and collaboratively organizes, assesses, and oversees the roles and practices of School Social Workers and School Psychologist within Mental Health and Student Well-Being.


This leader engages in the following: 1) Provides guidance and direction in school psychology and assessment practices to align with special education's strategic plan, 2) Ensures operational support for fulfilling District priorities and IDEA/504 assessment requirements, 3) Engages with departmental staff, principals, school personnel, and community stakeholders, 4) Hires and supervises centrally hired School Psychologists in service delivery and practice , and 4) Oversee recruitment and retention strategies for School Psychologists, and 5) Collaboratively oversees mental health practices across all DPS schools and students.

What You'll Do:


  • Manages the practice domains for every school psychologist and social worker within the Bilingual Special Education Assessment team (SEAS), ensuring operational excellence through performance evaluations, mentoring, and fostering professional development; Handles any concerns that arise
  • Responsible for ensuring school psychology best practice in the District, including compliance with Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and 504
  • Leads the special education strategic goals work for the department and collaborates with Special Education in supporting assessment teams, program design, process improvement and implementing new programs; leads work on designated special education projects and work groups, includes leadership and coordination of the Brain Steps Team as outlined by the Colorado Department of Education
  • Oversees the assessment task force within the department, which involves approving the procurement of assessment materials. Facilitates and delivers professional development opportunities aligned with the goals of the department and division, emphasizing a commitment to social justice principles
  • Partners in overseeing departmental operations, budgeting, objectives, programs, and strategic planning, while also analyzing departmental and central team requirements based on available data
  • Assists with mental health, behavioral health, and social-emotional learning initiatives, providing support to the Department Leadership Team
  • Leads the development and oversight of all coaching and team lead work for the Department of School Social Work and Psychological Services in collaboration with other department leaders/managers
  • Holds responsibility as an individual with a Type C license, to sign any necessary agreement with an assessment publisher/product as the responsible party to oversee the utilization and administration of assessments in accordance to punisher requirements including web-based platforms

What You’ll Need:


  • Minimum of an EdS in School Psychology is required - PhD is preferred
  • 5 of School Psychology experience is required
  • 2 of management or supervisory experience is required
  • Active Colorado Department of Education (CDE) License in School Psychology is required
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations
  • Strong organizational and analytic skills and strong attention to detail Superior leadership, coaching and mentoring skills
  • Ability to develop and interpret data and manage resources Required Ability to motivate and influence others
  • Ability to effectively lead a team
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to multi-task and juggle management of several high-priority projects in parallel
  • High degree of integrity in handling confidential information
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team
