The purpose of the Facilities Technician is to execute projects as assigned by the Facilities Supervisor, or Manager if the Supervisor is unavailable, that provide daily and ongoing operations and maintenance for the museum complex. The difference between a Level I, Level II, or Level III Technician is based on a combination of education and experience. This position ensures the general maintenance and repair of the grounds, buildings and building systems of the Denver Art Museum.  This position also provides support services for events, school group reception, visitor services, exhibitions and collections and duties as assigned in a dynamic ever-changing museum program.  The role of the Facility Technician includes responsibility for maintaining safe working practices and ensuring that safety protocols are always followed. 

This position reports to and collaborates with the Facility Manager in the Facilities Department.

Position type: This position be covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with AFSCME-CWU.

Pay: Full-time, $19.29 - $32.40 annually, depending on experience

What You’ll Do

• Inspects and troubleshoots museum facilities and equipment to determine proper construction and mechanical installation, maintenance, and repair needs.
• Can work from blueprints, manuals, written and/or verbal instruction.
• Estimates materials, labor, and equipment costs.
• Purchases and maintains tools and equipment used by the various museum and facility trades.
• Assists with periodic/routine maintenance of the museum’s HVAC systems. 
• Understands and can operate the computer software used by the department for incident documentation and e-mail communications and daily work orders.
• Observes all established safety program practices and assures all facility contractors do the same.
• Changes lighting and works under the direction of the electrician to change out ballasts etc.
• Clears drains and works under the direction of the plumber to change out plumbing fixtures as required.
• Consistent usage of the Racial Equity Lens in day-to-day operations.
• Yearly goal setting to support Racial Equity Roadmap initiatives.
• Performs general plant, grounds and building maintenance.
• Completes event set-ups and changeovers as needed.
• Provides general grounds maintenance including, but not limited to, snow removal, lawn/sprinkler maintenance and the repair and maintenance of fountains, lights and other architectural grounds features as needed to supplement the museum’s grounds maintenance contract.
• Other duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking for

• Knowledge and skill required to operate power tools, lift systems, and museum vehicles.
• General knowledge in the use of low voltage diagnostic equipment/techniques
• Basic understanding of HVAC building systems and their maintenance.
• Ability to understand and efficiently operate basic computer programs as used by the department for documentation, communications, work orders and time reporting.
• Basic knowledge, communication, and application of installation, repair and construction methods and equipment.
• General knowledge and experience in basic carpentry, drywall, plumbing, painting electrical, lighting, roofing, and irrigation.
• Ability to work with a diverse group of people including upper museum management, contactors, staff, and volunteers.
• Good organizational and communications skills.
• High school diploma or GED.
• 3-5 years of general experience in the repair, construction and maintenance of buildings and building operating systems.
• Performs proficiently in multiple types of maintenance work. 
• Plans and completes most jobs assigned with only general supervision. 
• Assists in the training and instructing of lower grade personnel.  

Certifications and Licenses:

• Possess and maintain a valid Colorado class “R” driver’s license.

                        Note: driving record must be checked/approved by facility insurance carrier.

• OSHA 10 certification a plus (required for Facilities Tech II and above).

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

• Subject to long irregular hours.
• Subject to burns, cuts, and injuries from moving parts of equipment.
• Subject to many interruptions and scheduling conflicts.
• Job requires the use of basic power/hand, pneumatic, electric tools for construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of the building and its systems.
• Job requires basic computer systems operations/skills, email, Microsoft Word, Simple Excel spreadsheets.
• Use of Micro Main Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Use of a radio handset.
• Driving of motor vehicles.
• Use of ladders, scaffolding, and scissor lifts.
• May use harnesses to safely complete work in elevated spaces.
