Minimum Salary: Teacher Hiring Schedule

Duty Days: 192 days per year


Primary Purpose:

Provides students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth; enables students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.


Qualifications:

Education and Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or appropriate educational requirement and/or sufficient industry experience
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned and/or sufficient industry experience
  • Current Serve Safe Food Protection Manager Certification or approved alternative
  • Valid driver’s license for food pickup/delivery, catering events and/or food truck events


Experience

  • At least one year of student teaching, approved internship or necessary prior experience and preparation in the specific work approval skill area
  • Minimum two (2) years of management experience in a culinary environment
  • Experience with budgeting/food costs required

Special Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience managing a restaurant and/or food truck
  • Comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of career education curriculum and instruction and technology
  • Current knowledge of federal and state laws and initiatives related to Career Education (in specific area of teaching assignment), careers pathways, current requirements for graduation, Tech Prep programs, etc.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Creative ability to design event set-ups and decor


Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Creates menu items that meet or exceed food regulations and student expectations.
  • Develops, tests, and modifies school recipes for breakfast, lunch, and catering events.
  • Train students in food preparation.
  • Manages all elements of the kitchen, including planning, budgeting and purchasing of all food.
  • Maintains food inventory control systems, including monitoring incoming supplies for quality and quantity, notes food surpluses and ensures stock.
  • Ensures food and labor costs remain within budgetary guidelines.
  • Implements correct procedures for food receiving, storage, handling, preparation, distribution, kitchen sanitation, safety, equipment operations and cleaning.
  • Assists with analysis of menu items for cost, acceptability, operation effectiveness and financial success.
  • Responsible for marketing plan development.
  • Monitors and evaluates operational practices for production management, quality control, sanitation, and safety.
  • Prepares student instruction to accomplish the essentials of student work.
  • Develops work schedules and ensures completion of work assignments according to the campus needs.
  • Trains students to ensure all tools, equipment, and chemicals are utilized according to prescribed safety standards.
  • Conducts assessment of student work and uses results to adjust training methods.
  • Works cooperatively with other special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for student workers.
  • Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Integrates technologies in the teaching/learning process.
  • Assists students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
  • Ensures that food is produced safely and is of high quality according to policies, procedures, and department requirements.
  • Assumes responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and may sponsor outside activities approved by the school.
  • Presents a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the School District by promoting efficiency, moral and teamwork.
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social and emotional development of students.
  • Manages student behavior in the classroom and administers discipline according to Board policies, administrative regulations and IEP.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
  • Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  • Maintains a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Uses acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Keeps the principal fully informed with respect to conditions and needs of the classroom/kitchen area and of new techniques and materials being used.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, committee meetings and works sessions as required by the principal.
  • Exhibits professional judgment and responsibility at all times.
  • Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible.
  • Promotes professional improvement through reading educational journals and books, exploring educational research, enrolling in college courses, participating in staff development activities and membership in professional organizations.
  • Follows all rules, regulations and policies of Denton ISD and follows directives from superiors to include but not limited to purchasing and student travel procedure guidelines.
  • Follows attendance policy as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records and other documents required for health inspections and other federal, state or local reporting.
  • Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations and district philosophy and board policies and presents subject matter according to established guidelines.
  • Keeps informed of and complies with state, district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.


Other Related Duties:

  • Follows district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Participates in professional development, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Tools and Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional moderate lifting and carrying (less than 40 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment

Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise; occasional districtwide and statewide travel

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
