Duties
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures including restorative, prosthodontic, endodontic, and pediatric treatments using four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and equipment following aseptic techniques to maintain infection control standards.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray) and operate advanced imaging tools such as 3D scanners for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Record vital signs, medical history, and other relevant patient information accurately in electronic health records (EMR systems) such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic.
- Manage medical documentation and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.
- Assist with chairside procedures by providing necessary materials, managing dental supplies, and supporting the dentist throughout treatments.
- Educate patients on oral health care practices, post-treatment instructions, and preventive measures tailored to pediatric or general dentistry needs.
- Support administrative functions when needed by handling patient check-in/out processes similar to a dental receptionist role.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment adhering to infection control protocols and OSHA standards.
- Stay current with advancements in dental technology including medical imaging techniques, 3D scanning, and new materials used in prosthodontics or endodontics.
Skills
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and infection control procedures.
- Experience with chairside assisting in general dentistry as well as specialized fields like prosthodontics, endodontics, or pediatrics.
- Ability to operate X-ray machines safely; familiarity with medical imaging technology including 3D scanners is preferred.
- Skilled in aseptic techniques to prevent cross-contamination during procedures.
- Excellent communication skills for patient education and team collaboration; experience as a dental receptionist is advantageous.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure compliance with privacy standards.
