Duties
- Operate laser welding equipment to join various metal materials, including sheet metal and structural components, following detailed blueprints and technical drawings
- Interpret mechanical blueprints, schematics, and fabrication shop drawings to determine welding requirements and procedures
- Prepare workpieces by measuring with calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments to ensure precise fit-up before welding
- Maintain high standards of safety by adhering to all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of power tools and gas cylinders
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laser welding machines to ensure optimal performance and weld quality
- Collaborate with team members on fabrication projects involving pipe threading, ductwork, assembly, and rigging tasks
- Inspect completed welds using measuring instruments and visual inspection techniques to verify compliance with AWS (American Welding Society) standards and ASME codes & standards
Qualifications
- Proven experience in metal fabrication or manufacturing environments, particularly with laser welding technology
- Strong knowledge of construction site experience, construction processes, and safety procedures
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and interpreting mechanical blueprints
- Familiarity with various welding techniques including TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), MIG (Metal Inert Gas), FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), and plasma cutting
- Ability to operate measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, shop math skills, and schematics for precise fabrication work
- Mechanical knowledge related to sheet metal fabrication, pipe threading, ductwork, assembly, machining, soldering, and power tools operation
- Experience working with construction materials like metals used in structural or industrial applications
- Knowledge of ASME codes & standards for pressure vessels or piping is a plus
- Demonstrated adherence to safety protocols in a fabrication shop or construction site setting
- Ability to interpret technical drawings accurately and work efficiently within tight deadlines
