Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Color Guard & Winter Guard Instructor to lead and develop our award-winning Color Guard during the fall marching band season and our competitive Winter Guard program. This position involves teaching movement, dance, and equipment skills, designing routines, and fostering a positive, inclusive team environment that encourages student growth, discipline, and creativity.
Fall Season (Color Guard – June through November):
- Collaborate with the Band Director and visual design team to develop and teach the color guard’s choreography for the marching band field show.
- Instruct students in flag, rifle, sabre, and dance techniques appropriate to their skill level.
- Design and choreograph the Color Guard portion of the production, including staging, equipment work, and movement.
- Oversee the design of the guard uniforms and flags
- Lead regular rehearsals, including band camp and evening practices.
- Promote teamwork, showmanship, and excellence in performance.
- Supervise students during performances at football games, competitions, and parades.
Winter Season (Winter Guard – December through April):
- Design and choreograph the Winter Guard production, including staging, equipment work, and movement.
- Select music and collaborate on costume, floor, and prop design.
- Organize and run evening rehearsals and Saturday practices and competitions.
- Prepare the ensemble for performances in NESBA and WGI circuits.
- Coordinate travel, registration, and logistics in collaboration with the Band Director and parent boosters.
- Prior experience in color guard and/or winter guard instruction.
- Strong background in choreography, movement, and equipment technique.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire students of all skill levels.
- Commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive team environment.
- Experience with US Bands/WGI/NESBA or similar circuits preferred.
- CORI background check required (per district policy).
- This is a stipend position with pay aligned to the district’s extracurricular pay scale.
