Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role located in Sanford, NC, for a Business Development & Marketing Manager. The role involves developing and implementing marketing and sales strategies to agressively recruit conferences, trade shows, and special events to the Dennis A. Wicker Civic and Conference Center to promote the economic growth.


Reporting to the Visit Sanford Executive Director while working in close daily coordination with the DAWCC Director, this individual will serve as the primary link between the city’s tourism efforts and its premier meeting facility. This role involves proactive sales (lead generation, targeted association and business marketing) along with the creation of marketing campaigns to position Sanford as a premier regional destination for event planners.


Key Responsibilities

1. Business Development & Sales (50%)

Lead Generation: Actively identify and recruit new business, including corporate meetings, state associations, trade shows, weddings, and regional competitions.

Relationship Management: Maintain a robust pipeline of prospects and foster long-term relationships with meeting planners, human resource professionals and community stakeholders.

Site Inspections: Coordinate professional site tours of the DAWCC and local hotel properties to showcase Sanford’s hospitality infrastructure.

RFP Management: Prepare and present compelling proposals and bid packages in response to RFPs (Requests for Proposals in collaboration with DAWCC personnel.)

Economic Impact Tracking: Utilize industry tools to track room night generation and the overall economic impact of booked events.


2. Marketing & Brand Strategy (40%)

Digital Content: Manage digital marketing efforts for DAWCC, including social media, email newsletters, and updates to dawcc.com.

Asset Creation: Develop high-quality marketing collateral, including brochures, video tours, and sales kits targeted at meeting planners.

Event Advertising: Coordinate advertising placements in industry trade publications and digital platforms to increase facility visibility.

Public Relations: Represent Visit Sanford and DAWCC at industry trade shows (AENC), networking events, and community meetings.


3. Strategy & Collaboration (10%)

Collaborative Planning: Work with the DAWCC operations team to ensure sales promises align with facility capabilities and scheduling.

Budgeting: Assist in managing the marketing budget allocated by the TDA for facility promotion.

Reporting: Provide regular monthly reports to the TDA board and DAWCC leadership regarding sales performance and marketing metrics.


Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Hospitality/Tourism Management, or a related field.


Experience: 2-4 years of experience in destination marketing, venue sales, or hotel business development.


Skills: * Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.

Strong proficiency in CRM software and digital marketing tools (e.g., Canva, Constant Contact, Hootsuite, Adobe).

Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.


Salary and Benefits

Annual salary $55,000-$58,000
