What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operator position at Denka Performance Elastomer LLC?
Position Purpose: Operates assigned equipment or areas of the plant in a safe & optimal manner. Monitors equipment & process conditions, troubleshoots process and equipment problems, performs equipment cleaning and repair work and writes descriptive Work Requests for work by Maintenance and others. Performs related administrative and emergency response tasks.
Responsibility overview (not limited to):
· Expected to train on and learn specific area job assignments to become qualified on a specified amount of area job assignments within an identified timeframe to achieve Career Level.
· Follows Operating Discipline principles, procedures, and practices to ensure safe, efficient operation of assigned plant areas.
· Operates and monitors process equipment and process conditions and control systems.
· Performs assigned tasks such as field checks, equipment preparation, samples, reading sheets, explosibility meter charging & calibration, etc.
· Assumes area owner responsibilities relating to Work Permits, Vessel Entry Permits, etc. (see Safety Manual for detailed responsibilities)
· Uses troubleshooting skills to resolve process related deviations and problems.
· Initiates SHE Incident Investigations and participates in establishing the root cause and ownership for implementing corrective actions.
· Performs site emergency response roles and maintains training.
· Inspects completed work by other groups to ensure that repairs have been completed to expected standards and is safe to put back in service (i.e., Turnover Sheets)
· Be a member of the Emergency Response Team and perform crisis response activities assigned by Crisis Response Leader (to be phased in later).
Continuous Improvement:
· Resources and trains others on plant operations
· Uses process knowledge and skills to make improvements in plant performance and operating discipline.
· As required, initiates and participates in root cause investigations.
· Uses Process Control tools to optimize plant operation and provide feedback on the effectiveness of the P.C. tools (i.e., DCS, IP21, CQMS, etc.)
· Monitors, collects and inputs data for Process Control, uptime, conversion costs, production yields, and identifies opportunities for plant optimization.
· Ensures operational activities and process performance are aligned with site and business goals.
Equipment Cleaning & Repair:
· Troubleshoots equipment problems within scope of training.
· Performs equipment cleaning such as strainers, filters, unplugging, etc.
· Performs repair work within scope of training defined in area Operator Repair Tasks
· Performs scheduled PM work as determined by history, need, and policy.
Interface with Reliability & Repair Groups:
· Creates descriptive Work Requests
· Prepares equipment for maintenance in accordance with safety guidelines.
· Notifies appropriate individuals of emergency work (i.e., Gatekeeper & Activity Coordinator)
· Interacts with Reliability Group concerning abnormal equipment performance.
· Notifies appropriate support work groups when call-out is required and force them if necessary.
· Assists others doing work in the area as appropriate to ensure work is done safely and in a timely manner.
· Provides feedback to Maintenance Coordinator or Planner on repair work done by operations to ensure timely Work Order closing.
· Hangs travelers on safety devices, witnesses’ removal and installation of safety devices.
Qualifications:
· High School diploma or GED required.
· Process Technology Degree required OR 2 years relevant work experience required in the military, chemical plant, or manufacturing environment (i.e., production, operations, maintenance, electrical, mechanical, loading, or related industrial experience).
· Proficiency in math, reading comprehension, and mechanical reasoning with strong troubleshooting, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work a rotating shift; weekends; holidays; overtime; and respond to callouts.
· Ability and willingness to serve as member of Emergency Response Team.
· Ability to read, write and speak in English.
· Proficient in Microsoft applications.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate as part of a team.
· Physical requirements:
- Must be able to lift 40lbs.
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs (from 1 – 5 floors), balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear.
- Based on the area selected to work these physical requirements may increase and you must be able to lift and/or carry 50-80lbs on a frequent basis and occasionally up to 100lbs.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator.
- Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.
