Production Cable Electronics Technician / Assistant Supervisor

DEM Manufacturing is seeking an experienced, hands-on, and detail-oriented Production Cable Electronics Technician to assist the supervision of our cable electronics and solder assembly team.

This position directly reports to the Production Supervisor with intent for career growth and advancement, succession planning, and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the Production Supervisor to perform electronic and mechanical assembly and sub-assembly production, routine and advanced soldering of small cable assemblies, surface mount and through hole PCBs, and potting enclosures according to documented procedures and applicable standards using hand tools and a variety of electronics assembly equipment.
  • Perform operations necessary to build flexible cable assemblies, rigid assemblies, cutting and stripping wire, potting, crimping, and soldering.
  • Coordinate with the injection molding operations, pre-assembly functions and QC to ensure work orders are accurate, complete, kitted with the required components, and advanced through the production process in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the assignment, tracking, and documentation of work orders, reporting of work completed, and performing rework as needed.
  • Assist the entry and mid-level production cable assemblers with skills development and troubleshooting.
  • Participate with the Engineering team to help define and improve work instructions, bills of material, process routings, time studies and production rates, and QC processes.
  • Work with the Engineering team to develop prototypes, first articles and known good assemblies, and to implement continuous improvement and lean manufacturing practices.
  • Substitute for the Production Supervisor during time-off periods.
  • Other associated tasks as required.

Qualifications, Education, & Experience

  • Five years or more of experience in: 1) wire or PCBA soldering; 2) assembly of electronic, electro-mechanical, and cabling; 3) or equivalent.
  • IPC-A-620, IPC J-STD-001, and/or IPC-A-610 certifications desired.
  • Experience in an ISO 9001, ITAR, and / or government contracting organization.
  • High school diploma (GED or High School Equivalence), trade, and/or specialized training.
  • Experience leading people and teams.

Competencies

  • Must be familiar with electronic assembly and measuring tools, wire cutting and stripping, crimping, cable sleeving, solder splicing, heat applications, multimeter reading, wire routing, potting and encapsulation, Cirris testing or similar, and interpreting visual aids such as bills of material, work instructions, and drawings.
  • Must gain a thorough understanding of DEM Manufacturing policies, products, processes, and methods.
  • Basic computer skills, able to navigate through windows and DEM computer files.
  • Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced, timeline-driven environment.
  • Reliable, and able to show up to work daily and on time.
  • Able to pass a background check and drug screen.
  • Able to work in a team to identify deficiencies and recommend opportunities for improvement.

  • Able to lift 30 lbs.
