Job Purpose
Delval Equipment is actively seeking a motivated Boiler Technician Apprentice to join our team and deliver outstanding service to our valued customers. In this hands-on position, you'll work alongside experienced service technicians to develop your skills while providing essential support for commercial and industrial boiler and auxiliary equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with performing start-ups of newly installed boilers and rental fleet equipment at customer locations
- Support preventative maintenance contracts, annual maintenance, and equipment inspections
- Assist with troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems on commercial and industrial boilers under supervision
- Help execute repairs and conversions to boiler equipment
- Learn to use multimeters, combustion analyzers, and test equipment to troubleshoot and set combustion on all boiler types
- Assist with installation, upgrades, and maintenance of combustion control equipment, controls, and burners
- Support work with PLCs, transformers, transmitters, and boiler/burner controls
- Assist with retrofitting control systems in the field
- Help service fuel delivery systems, boiler feedwater systems, and blowdown heat recovery systems
- Assist with emergency service calls on a rotational schedule (on-call approximately once every six weeks)
- Maintain accurate documentation of hours worked, tasks performed, materials used, and processes
- Keep inventory and maintain all tools, equipment, and company vehicles
- Communicate effectively with customers, team members, and all departments
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- 1-2 years of experience with boilers, burners, or commercial HVAC systems preferred, OR strong mechanical/electrical aptitude with relevant technical training
- Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical prints, schematics, and technical manuals
- Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and basic testing equipment
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication skills and professional demeanor with customers
- Physical ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, climb, bend, stoop, work in confined and elevated spaces, and remain on your feet for extended periods
- Willingness to work flexible hours including emergency on-call rotation and occasional overnight travel
- Must pass required physical and illicit substance screening prior to employment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with combustion analyzers, multimeters, and diagnostic equipment
- Knowledge of boilers and boiler controls.
- EPA Universal Certification or willingness to obtain
- Trade school education or apprenticeship program completion in HVAC, mechanical systems, or related field
- Previous customer service experience in the field service industry
Schedule Requirements
The Boiler Technician Apprentice should arrive at the job site ready to begin each day by 7:00 AM. Job locations may vary daily, so you will need to plan your commute prior to your scheduled workday. You will drive from your residence directly to the site each day.
