Position Summary
Murphy Machine Products (MMP), a Delva Tool & Machine (DTM) company, is seeking a CNC Swiss Quality Technician for our Wood Dale, IL location. The CNC Swiss Quality Technician is responsible the ensuring the integrity of high-precision components produced on Swiss-style lathes (Star). This role focuses on real-time quality monitoring, providing technical feedback to Setup and Operators, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement through effective team communication.
*This position works a schedule of Monday thru Thursday from 6:00am-4:30pm OR Monday thru Friday from 6:00am-2:30pm. The pay range is between $20.00-$30.00/hr. depending on experience*
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform frequent visual and dimensional inspections of parts using high-precision tools (micrometers, comparators, vision systems, and CMMs).
- Validate the first parts off the machine after a new setup to ensure the process is capable and stable before full production begins.
- Monitor tool wear trends and tolerances to predict and prevent defects before they occur.
- Act as the primary communicator between the Quality Lab and the Shop Floor. You must translate complex data into actionable feedback for Setup Technicians and Operators.
- Assist Setup employees in troubleshooting "out-of-tolerance" conditions, helping to identify whether the issue is tool-related, thermal drift, or programming-based.
- Lead brief "toolbox talks" or handoff meetings to ensure the incoming shift understands current quality trends or specific part sensitivities.
- Train CNC Operators on how to use manual gauges and interpret blueprints, fostering a "Quality at the Source" mindset where everyone feels responsible for the part.
- Approach quality issues with a "problem-solving" rather than "fault-finding" attitude to maintain high morale and trust between departments.
- Participate in Kaizen events or team meetings to suggest process changes that reduce scrap and make the Machinists' jobs easier.
Experience, Qualifications, and Skills
- 3 years' experience in a CNC machining environment (specifically Swiss Turning preferred).
- Expert ability to read complex engineering drawings and understand GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Proficiency with Keyence vision systems, profilometers, hand tools and CMMs.
- Strong verbal communication and the ability to remain calm and constructive under production pressure.
