Summary
As an Aerial Lineman, you will be essential in ensuring the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, and repair of aerial utility lines. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will utilize core skills in hand and power tools, while leveraging premium skills such as high voltage and fiber splicing. Your role will also involve customer service interactions, ensuring client satisfaction. With relevant skills in heavy equipment operation and climbing, you will contribute to a team dedicated to delivering reliable utility services while adhering to safety standards and best practices.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience
- Knowledge of company products and services.
- Ability to read general to complex system layouts from blueprints.
- Use the following hand tools, electric drills, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers.
- Ability to walk over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather while carrying tools, equipment, including gaffs, ladders, fully loaded tool belts at all times of the day or night
- Safely use weight-bearing equipment (such as gaffs, safety harness and ladders) within the maximum weight limitations of that equipment.
- Accurately measure distances, using tapes or other measuring devices.
- Carry, climb and operate extension ladder, (approx. 32 ft. high and 75 pounds), climb poles using gaffs, hooks and climbing belt as needed.
- Differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires.
- Make cable connections in tight spaces by bending, reaching, twisting.
- Operate appropriate computer or test equipment associated with position (e.g. signal level meters, ohm meters, etc.)
- Stand 50 - 70% of the time.
- Use handheld communication devices and applications.
- Dig in all types of soil.
- Operate machinery used for underground/overhead cable installation.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Basic mathematics and electronics
- Knowledge of HFC/FTTH construction and Architecture
- Must be able to back up a truck with a trailer.
- Able to work in bucket trucks, and climb poles.
- Read and follow work orders, read prints and work on electronic tablets for daily time and production reporting.
- Understand, agree to and perform work in a safe manner. Abide by OSHA and industry safety standards when working with vehicle lift, ladders, harnesses, manholes, traffic control and proper safety equipment/apparel.
